It’s right about that time in the season where the award races are pretty set between a clear 1-3 players. I will be giving my opinions and votes on who I think should win each award. I’m going fully based on my opinion and not considering Madden’s rankings so I apologize if I have any unoriginal votes.
LEAGUE AWARDS
MVP: Patrick Mahomes
MVP is between 2 players in my eyes… Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert. MVP is a QB award like it or not, it’s just the facts. Herbert with his 2 game suspension allowed Mahomes to catch up in TDs and yards, then Mahomes has a 19% advantage on completion percentage (rpo/jet pass merchant) so you have to give it to Mahomes.
COTY: Ke
This one was really down to Ke and Dot, the reason I give it to Ke is because his roster is 100% worse than the Pats and he is a higher seed than Dot.
AFC Awards
OPOY: Dalvin Cook
This pretty much came down to Cook vs Achane. Cook wins because he has more rushing yards, more receiving yards, more receiving TDs, less fumbles, and more total TDs on a team with more wins. I will say though Cook has 76 more touches and I do believe Achane would have won OPOY with more touches.
DPOY: Cameron Heyward
This was not even close… 63 tackles, 40 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles. That’s insane numbers. 63% of his tackles are for a negative gain. This is historic numbers.
OROY: De’Von Achane
If you’re a rookie competing for OPOY, you are almost guaranteed to win Rookie of the Year. With Achane getting better and Dalvin regressing expect 1-2 OPOYs for Achane in the future.
DROY: Jordan Battle
This was tough, it was between Battle and Ameer Speed. Ameer had the INT battle by 2, but Battle had 14 more tackles, 3 more tackle for loss, 2 more sacks, and 1 more forced fumble. I wouldn’t be mad if they gave it to Ameer instead though.
Best QB: Patrick Mahomes
He won MVP… enough said.
Best RB: Dalvin Cook
Won OPOY enough said.
Best WR: Davante Adams
Once again not even close, 83 catches, 1,260 yards, and 11 TDs. He is on a losing team who are absolutely force feeding him the ball it’s not even funny.
Best TE: Evan Engram
Really impressive to be the best TE in the AFC when you’re in the same conference as the GOAT Travis Kelce, however 1,100 yards and 10 TDs is very hard to overlook at the TE position.
Best OL: Cameron Fleming
788 snaps, 14 games… and 0 sacks allowed. All in a division that has Bosa, Crosby, Jones, and Mack. This is truly impressive.
Best DL: Cameron Heyward
Historic season, DPOY, blah blah… you get it.
Best LB: Foyesade Oluokun
It was between Ja’Whaun Bentley, Oluokun, and Christian Harris. Oluokun had the 2nd most tackles, most tackle for loss, most sacks, 2nd most INTs, and 3rd most forced fumbles of the 3. I could see it going to any of the three though no argument from me.
Best CB: Trent McDuffie
I wanted to give it to old man Pat Pete, I really did. McDuffie just had 13 more tackles, .5 more sacks, 3 more TFL, and only 1 less INT.
Best S: Derwin James Jr.
It was a three way battle between Derwin, Minkah, and Justin Reid. Derwin has 15 more tackles than Reid and 25 more tackles than Minkah, Derwin has 6 more tackles for loss than Reid and 8 more tackles for loss than Minkah. 1 more sack than both. 1 less pick than both. 1 less forced fumble than Reid and 1 more forced fumble than Minkah. To me it’s 100% Derwin, but still close.
Best K: Jason Sanders/Cade York
My first tie, Jason Sanders has made 11 FGs that are from 50 yards or more which is 4 more than 2nd place… he has missed 3 FGs though (all from 50 yards or more) and 3 XPs. Cade York has only made 2 FGs from 50+ (he is 7/7 up to the 49 though) but the thing that makes him stand out is he is he hasn’t missed a kick all season. He is 27/27 for FGs and 29/29 on XPs.
Best Returner: Mecole Hardman Jr
It was between Mecole and Harty. Mecole had 350 more return yards and Harty had 1 more TD. I went with the yards. 1,800 return yards and 3 TDs is extremely impressive.
