PML Reality Checks: Lions for real? Is Spdot a top 3 user?

Lions will win NFCN

Reality or Overreaction: Reality

Fallen is sitting at 2-0 without his star WR Jamo. He made a huge move in the offseason acquiring Chris Jones who makes a huge impact in the run and pass game. Gibbs got juke box which is the most broken offensive ability in the game. Once Jamo comes back this offense will be borderline unstoppable. I think Jefe could also maybe take a drop off compared to last season because that was a crazy run nobody really expected. The key will to not turn over the ball and continue his great play with Goff who is currently completing 81% of his passes.

Cowboys miss playoffs

Reality or Overreaction: Reality

I think the NFC E will be a 2 man race between HD and Burn. Drama is playing terrible football right now. He had a close game vs JC, but his final drive was nothing short of embarrassing. Folding under pressure in the clutch is not an indicator of a playoff contender. Drama has a good chance to lose his next 3 which will put him at 0-5 and I think at best he will be 1-4. What made Drama so good last season was his ability to take care of the ball with Dak… this season you can’t say the same.

Hypemike

This may be the most unpredictable cycle yet

Reality or Overreaction: Reality

The way this Madden game is, you have no idea where things will go. It’s 50% skill and 50% luck. Sometimes you can get a bad animation, bad holding calls, bad overthrows. There are some things you just cannot control when it comes to this game and at times it may seem like the better player didn’t win. This is the beauty of PML and football in general. There are so many key things in one score games that do not tell the full story. People get rated by wins and accomplishments in sports. Some wins are more undeserving than others while some wins are a true testament to how good someone is. Point is, the way this game is you cannot tell who will win a Super Bowl. KMFO is the best guy on paper for sure but who knows you may see Watson overthrow Cooper for 2 Touchdowns or Denzel Ward drop 3 Pick Sixes. The Super Bowl window is opening for many users.

Many top 10 users are underperforming

Reality or Overreaction: Reality

Let’s look at the facts. DK, myself, Que, Codes and KingMike were regarded as some of the best users in the league prior to season 1. Now let’s take a look at how our first seasons went.

Hypemike – 1st round exit

Codes – 1st round exit

DK – Missed playoffs and under 10 wins

KingMike and Que – Top 5 Draft Pick

It is crazy seeing how bad some of our cycles have went so far. This goes back to what I was saying above this statement. This Madden might have more luck than ever before. I remember when I played DK Trey Lance missed like 4 or 5 first downs. It is harder to overcome bad QB play more than ever before. I just want to say that these guys are regarded as top users for a reason and we shouldn’t completely diminish what they have done just because of one bad season. Taking that into account with the fact that Madden at the end of the day is a game that either goes one team’s way more than the other is key on this take. I believe these users will at least make it to a divisional round, conference championship, or Super Bowl at least once this cycle but they are seen as underperformers right now.

The Lions are poised to make a run at the NFC North

Reality or Overreaction: Overreaction

Lets pump the brakes a bit in Motor City.  Sure they’re 2-0 with victories over the Giants and the Bills, but I don’t think we necessarily are looking at them as threats to dethrone HypeMike atop of the division.  Fallen is playing solid and sound football over the course of two weeks.  A small sample size, but the victory over the Bills is convincing enough to show the Lions have made a leap since last season.  Jared Goff, now a superstar, kept the starting quarterback position this season when many believed he was the weak link to a dangerous and explosive offense.  However, this should, and probably will be his final year as a PML starting quarterback as he is set to hit free agency and going on 30 years old, I am not sure teams will be throwing their cash at an aging pocket passer who will surely demand north of 20m a season if he keeps his dev. I do think the Lions are good enough to contend for a wildcard berth this season, but winning 11+ games to keep up with Hype, and possibly even Jefe is a little too much to ask.  The schedule doesn't do Fallen any favors either as not only do they get their own divisional games, but the NFC West is on the slate this year.  I root for the Lions, but I think the expectations need to be tamed, at least until they show a little more throughout the season.

Spdot, without reservation is a top 3 user in PML

Reality or Overreaction: Reality

We kind of got side tracked for a bit today on the breakfast show as a few members on the show debated whether or not Spdot is a top 3 user in PML.  Drama believes that Spdot doesn’t belong in the top 3 conversation, while others put him there without any doubts.  One argument was that he flies under the radar for just getting the job done and in a non-flashy manner.  A fair debate I supposed, but is it really a question?  Spdot has taken a bottom 3 team to start a CFM with and took them straight to a Super Bowl title in the first season.  He also has a Super Bowl title under his belt from the previous cycle as well.  How can we not call him top 3? In my opinion, he could be top 1 or 2 after the smoke clears on the cycle.  We sometimes overlook the accomplishments of others, many times to create a debate, or enter the narrative into a discussion.  This is one I don’t even think is up for debate, Spdot, at least for the time being has solidified himself as a top 3, S-Tier user.

Titans won’t make the playoffs again

Reality or Overreaction: Reality

After coming so close last szn and finishing 9-8 while dropping 3 of his last 4.The Titans seem to have kept that downward spiral going and starting the season off 0-2 with their week 3 matchup vs the Packers up next. I think it's gonna be very hard to fight back into the playoff race.  Could see this team going to 2-3 with some easier opponents week 4 & 5 but then you got 3 straight games vs playoff users so the room for error is very slim already for these titans and I just don’t think they will be able to win enough games to get in.

Chris jones has turned the Lions into playoff contenders

Reality or overreaction: Reality

Two games into season 2 and the Lions are undefeated with Chris jones. He has recorded a sack in each game and the defense is looking much improved. They gave up the 30th most yards in the league and 25th most points allowed. So far they are 17th in yards allowed and 9th in PPG allowed, the numbers speak for themselves. On the other side of the ball, Gibbs has 40 touches in 2 games and is looking to be the workhorse and follow in dalvin cook’s footsteps. Overall I think it was a fantastic trade by fallen and has really given him some footing in this tough NFC North division.
