The PML Draft is a day that all teams wait for. With any pick in the draft, any team could draft a potential superstar for their roster. This is the hope especially for a Giants team that is lacking superstars. They need to find some in this draft in order to keep up with their rebuilding neighbors within the division. They had the 17th pick in the draft and feel like some of these players could be superstars by the end of the season.
Round 1 Pick 17: CB Jarvis Brownlee 78 OVR
Brownlee was one of the top corners in the draft. He is tall, fast, and has great coverage skills. He also has the ability to transition to safety if need be. With the roster having so many good, fast corners, he will be asked to play different spots this season. He has the most shot out of all of the rookies drafted at getting a better development trait. He will be on the field on every play and will have a great shot at getting NFC defensive rookie of the year.
Round 3 Pick 17: RE Van Fillinger 72 OVR
This pick was one out of desperation due to Tight End Delp being picked 6 picks earlier. Fillinger was a pick that fit the needs of the roster requirements, with the hopes that he will be built into something more. He is a fast end, with decent strength and good coverage skills, as he comes with 74 zone. His moves and block shedding need some work but his 90 impact blocking will make him an excellent backup and plug in relief guy when the time comes.
Round 4 Pick 17: Antonio Williams 75 OVR
With all of the wide receivers flying off the board in front of them, the Giants picked the best guy they had on the board in the fourth round. Williams isn’t the fastest guy, but he is a player that is well rounded off the start. He has a lot of 80 overall attributes and will make a great backup this season. He will see more and more playing time but not enough for him to be anything great this season.
Round 5 Pick 17: LOLB Jeffrey Bassa
Linebacker wasn’t a position of need on this team but Bassa was the best player available on the board. He isn’t the fastest linebacker with only 85 speed, but his 92 acceleration makes it so he will get to his top speed quickly. He is an all around solid linebacker that has high 70s for most of his attributes. He will be built up while learning on the bench and when Okereke retires, will take over at middle linebacker for him.
Round 6 Pick 13: QB Kaidon Salter 72 OVR
This was the pick that was the most infuriating. The Giants gave up a pick next year for the opportunity to move up a few slots to get one of the best quarterbacks in the draft. Brady Cook slipped by a lot of teams in the draft, and was on the Giants radar this round, however, just like in round 3, the Bills picked him before the Giants could. This made the Giants choose the last quarterback on their draft board. Salter is pretty much a Daniel Jones clone, but at a much cheaper rate. He will be a serviceable backup.
Round 6 Pick 17: SS Brooks Miller 65 OVR
Miller was strictly picked for his “elite” speed. He has 93 speed, 91 acceleration, and 90 hit power. After about 12 attribute points, he will become sub lb eligible. This is the main reason why he is on the team. To have a 93 speed sub lb is a lot of teams dreams.
Round 7 Pick 17: CB Toriano Pride
Pride was just a shot in the dark pick and turned out to be a great one. He has good speed and good starting man and zone attributes. He will be sitting behind the other corners on our roster and should be good next season to compete for the starting spot.
We had a good overall draft considering the starting, but we will have to wait for the development tool to see if the draft was anything spectacular.
