NFC North:
Hypemike – Master of Disguise
Reason: Have you ever wondered why Mike’s defense always puts up gaudy stats? You’ll start seeing ghosts once he gets the mental edge on you with his defensive play calling, as he consistently gives you similar looks with different results.
Fallen – Stock Coverage
Reason: What you see is probably what you’re going to get against Fallen. That doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed success though, as Fallen does a good job mixing up his coverages and blitzes to keep you on your toes.
Wimmy – Picasso
Reason: As we previously established, Wimmy might be the ultimate Freestyler in PML. This applies on defense as much as it does on offense. This style creates very boom or busts results…a lot of yards given up but a lot of turnovers forced in the process!
Jefe – Make ‘Em Work
Reason: You’re not going to score one play touchdowns against Jefe. He will make you fight and claw for yardage and wait for you to slip up once and then bam! The drive is over for you and you’re wondering “What happened?”
NFC East:
Drama – Full Send
Reason: Drama embraces the mentality of “Pressure Busts Pipes.” He’ll send the dogs and hope his pressure gets there before his DB gets torched. Results may vary.
Burn – Make ‘Em Work
Reason: Burn has always been notorious for dropping 8 into coverage and forcing you to d*** and dunk your way down the field. Fall behind the down and distance against this coach and you better be ready to throw into a tight window.
Miles – Cat & Mouse
Reason: I personally feel like Miles isn’t as bad as his historically bad defense suggests. The problem is, in PML if you gamble on leaving 1 or 2 people wide open, the high caliber players in this league will find those players more often than not.
HD – Bait & Switch
Reason: HD runs a very aggressive defense. He constantly gambles trying to outsmart you, especially when he goes into his double a-gap defensive front. When it works, it is a thing of beauty. When it doesn’t…well it’s a touchdown for the other team.
NFC West:
Zstar – Clock Manager Elite
Reason: Z has a number of high-level defensive tags, but nothing fits him as well as clock manager. With a lead he is the ultimate bend but don’t break coach. But when he feels like he needs to get off the field quickly, the drive is ending soon whether the result is a touchdown or a turnover.
CEO – The Loyalist
Reason: We all know CEO is willing to live and die on certain defensive principles. He’ll leave his CBs on an island whether it’s Courtland Sutton or DK Metcalf on the other side. I know CEO left but I figured I’d include him…and now as a bonus lets also include his probable replacement!
TBandit – Picasso
Reason: Tbandit is willing to get risky on defense, and try to create the perfect defensive play art to shut you down. If you see two high safety pre-snap, its probably one high safety and vice versa. Good luck. Also for those wondering, for offense TBandit would get the Surgeon tag due to his high level of dotting up defenses and zero desires to run the ball.
Que – The Loyalist
Reason: Que has his defensive principles and doesn’t go away from them whether his defense is locking down, or getting shredded. These days, you’ll see him sticking in base and trying to make you change your offense based on his defensive shells.
Cook – Master of Disguise
Reason: I won’t troll here like I did on offense. But I’m also not here to toot my own horn so I will simply say that a Cook defense is confusing to carve up because you never know what you’re getting.
NFC South:
JC – Quick Adjustment Specialist
Reason: JC is a sneaky good defensive user because he’s able to quickly create what he needs to before the ball is snapped. Just because you see no movement pre-snap doesn’t mean he’s not switching his defense up to stop what you’re trying to do.
Nef – Picasso
Reason: When Nef has time to make adjustments on defense pre-snap, you truly never know the limits of what he’s going to cook up. He’ll turn a cover 2 into a cover 3 cloud, or turn a cover 0 blitz into a 3 man man rush. Sometimes you wonder if he’s doing too much, and more simplicity would be good for him.
JT – Full Send
Reason: Everyone knows JT wants to blitz. He loves to blitz. But who’s blitzing? That’s always the question against his exotic schemes. There’s usually someone wide open, but you won’t have a lot of time to figure out who it is.
Cammy – Stock Coverage
Reason: Cammy even admits himself that he’s not sure about what he’s doing on defense. He calls plays and hopes they work. Godspeed Cammy.
