FA1 Recap W/ Grades #TheReturn

92 OVR Star CB AJ Terrell Jr: Vikings: 4 Years, 58M Salary, 58M Bonus: B+ Nearly 30M a year for a corner isn’t great, but when you can make the defensive backfield consist of AJ Terrell and Jalen Ramsey, I see the vision. A big boost for the Vikings defense.

90 Star WR Terry McLaurin: Rams: 3 Years, 34.5M Salary, 30.6M Bonus: A Despite paying 5M a year above Terry’s asking price, the Rams needed a WR1 with Kupp regressing. They have an old 1-2 punch with Kupp and McLaurin both in their 30s but the young speedy X-Factor Fleming makes this a versatile and scary unit.

90 Star WR Davante Adams: 49ers: 3 Years, 31.8M Salary, 28.2M Bonus: B if any other team gave 33 year old Davante this bag it would be an F, but the 49ers have basically not been built at all letting Aiyuk walk, trading Deebo and having the cap to give Shedeur better weapons as he gets a new coach.

89 Star CB Tre’Davious White: Seahawks: 1 Year, 7M Salary, 7.4M Bonus: C+ Depth is important and I love a good expensive 1 year deal more than most, but you don’t need to go this big on a slot corner. Maybe they’re just trying to match the Rams new 3-headed WR room.

88 Star RG Wyatt Teller: Patriots: 1 Year, 8.9M Salary, 11.4M Bonus: B- Expensive but well worth the 1 year rental and with good motivation and just 31 years old which isn’t death for offensive linemen, he should get brought back for season 5, too.

88 Star LG Joel Bitonio: Patriots: 1 Year, 12.2M Salary, 9.1M Bonus: C- While I love the Teller deal for reasons, I dislike the Bitonio deal simply because it’s not where the money should be going. Bitonio is good, but he’s 9 strength behind Teller and this money should go to one of the FA QBs asking for Mahomes money. Matt Corral and Alex Orji are the current QBs in New England.

86 Star SS Vonn Bell: Titans: 1 Year, 5M Salary, 8M Bonus: C+ This is just too expensive for a slow safety, but I expect Bell to just play sub LB on the Titans and thankfully, nickel is more of a base defense these days than 3-4 o4 4-3 (True in the NFL these days, too). Would just like to have seen less money here.

86 Normal WR Christian Kirk: 49ers: 4 Years, 29.2M Salary, 26.4M Bonus: B- 14M a year isn’t great for a receiver like Kirk but like I mentioned earlier, the 49ers are playing catch up more than any other team and overspending is the only way they can field a competitive roster.

86 Star FS Jalen Pitre: Texans: 3 Years, 15.9M Salary, 16.2M Bonus: A- it’s a bit of an expensive contract for a safety but he has a good chance of living up to the contract in the Texans defense. One minigame dev or dev game and this is an A instead of an A-.

83 Star DT Travis Jones: Bills: 4 Years, 22M Salary, 29.2M Bonus: C there are plenty of good strong defensive lineman and Buffalo already has Ed Oliver so I don’t love giving this guy around 13M a year just to not even be important on this roster.

83 Star LG DJ Humphries: Raiders: 1 Year, 7M Salary, 6M Bonus: B+ a good player with an expensive 1 year deal, but with Jayden Daniels gone, Vegas is trying to protect a new rookie QB. WR is next hopefully.

81 Star SS Daxton Hill: Texans: 3 Years, 9.6M Salary, 11.7M Bonus: A the safeties in Houston are piling up, and more importantly, they’re coming in with chances to become superstars and not at a hefty cost. 7M a year is great value and Hill will be useful.

80 Star RG Alex Cappa: Rams: 1 Year, 2.7M Salary, 3.8M Bonus: B just two seasons left and the Rams fill a starting offensive line spot for at least one of them at a very reasonable salary. With high motivation, Cappa should play, regress, and re-sign for season 5.

79 Normal LOLB Nakobe Dean: Texans: 3 Years, 10.2M Salary, 11.4M Bonus: A Houston is back to making splashes in the offseason and the defense continues to beef up. Dean is young, fast, and versatile for a LB and should progress through AR and be a quality starter at a cheap(ish) price.

79 Star ROLB Khordae Sydnor: Bengals: 5 Years, 30M Salary, 35M Bonus: A- This is the hardest signing to grade. Sydnor is a beast at 6’5 265 and has solid speed at 85 and is star dev. However, this contract is 13M a year with just two seasons left and Sydnor has 67 play rec and 63 block shed which can definitely be felt on the field. But, I think the pros of his coverage ability, hit power and ability to progress far outweigh the cons and this is a great signing. If only he was allowed to be turned into a safety.

77 Normal DT Kristian Williams: Bengals: 3 Years, 6M Salary, 12.9M Bonus: B+ a very solid young and talented interior defensive lineman who’s strong enough to have an impact right away and can still go up a couple overalls and be a quality starter for the second half of this season and season 5.

77 Normal HB Keaton Mitchell: Buccaneers: 4 Years, 23.2M Salary, 20M Bonus: F- I mean you don’t need two 95 speed rbs, you especially shouldn’t pay a mediocre, normal dev, tiny af RB over 10M a year. A waste of money for a player who can put up all the stats he wants, this is a waste. Could’ve spread this money across cheaper RBs and gotten quality and quantity instead of neither.

76 Normal C Spencer Burford: Saints: 7 Years, 11.9M Salary, 15.4M Bonus: B- SMH not sim with that 7 year deal, however less than 4M a year for a high end OL backup is a good get despite Burford not having any real chance to start. Ok, but seriously can someone confirm I didn’t break any rules with this deal cause we normally see a lot more 7 years and this was the only one of FA1.

75 Normal ROLB Marlowe Wax: Seahawks: 4 Years, 12.4M Salary, 12.8M Bonus: B- This isn’t a necessarily cheap contract but Wax is young, fast, and can contribute for a Seattle team looking to pull a Purdue after losing to the 7 seed as the 1 seed. Wax has bad block shed and coverage, but his physical tools should give him a solid floor to produce.

72 Normal CB Deane Leonard: Chiefs: 1 Year, 1.6M Salary, 500k Bonus: D+ A cheap contract for a fast corner who isn’t short sounds great, but it’s about to be season 4, I don’t want to see these contracts even if it’s one year. These are for FA3 or at least FA2, waste of bids where you have a chance to get playmakers or at least play defense on others.

71 Normal CB Jalyn Armour-Davis: Chiefs: 1 Year, 1.6M Salary, 500k Bonus: F copy and paste what I said above except it’s even worse to have two of these. More wastefulness on players that would be great to grab early on in the cycle, but have no time to truly become even high end backups despite their physicals.
