This will be a weekly series where I will be looking at the box score and giving a summary/ my thoughts of how I felt each game went if I was able to watch it. This may change as the season goes on and the article progresses but for now this is how it is.
Patriots 14 VS Jets 31
I didn’t see this one, however it seems the game boiled down to who is the best game manager. We’ve got the rookie Maye versus the veteran Rodgers. You would assume that Rodgers would be the clear winner here but he didn’t play well either. Both teams threw interceptions, but it was Maye who had double with 2. The key for the Jets was their running game which ran for over 190 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Patriots defense can’t catch a break as they are losing in different ways these first three weeks.
Giants 56 VS Browns 53
I checked in on this game a few times and saw that it wasn’t a close game so I was surprised by the box score afterwards. It’s a surprise that the game ended so close but I am assuming Jones threw 2 interceptions and fumbled the ball came into the play. Outside of that, Jones played a great game throwing for 5 touchdowns and over 350 yards. Watson on the other hand was the reason that the Browns were down in the game by throwing 4 interceptions. We’ve heard some grumblings that a quarterback switch might be on the way in Cleveland, however, I don’t know how much that will help. The Giants coming away with this victory without Lawrence either shows how great they can be or how truly bad HD is to have another losing season with a top 5 team.
Packers 52 VS Titans 38
Poor Miles….It looked like he was going to go out here and get his first one of the season, only to have it snatched away. The ironic part about this loss is that Levis actually played well by only throwing 2 interceptions. The problem is the Titans need to get some sort of a defense. Letting Love play nearly perfect ruined any chance of them getting their first win.
Bears 43 VS Colts 0
Scoring 0 points in a game that by definition is designed to be easier for the offense to score is not a good sign. This was one of the more uneven matchups of the week but the total carnage that the Bears unleashed here is ridiculous. I dont know whats scoring 0 points or only throwing the ball 20 times when you have not scored any points. It looks like the Colts tried both Richardson and Flacco, got down then just ran the ball to waste the clock. I guess the only good thing is you can say you didn’t throw a huge amount of interceptions.
Texans 28 VS Vikings 31
If only Ant could play a full game, he would have come out of this one on top. I watched some of this game and it’s a shame that the Texans couldn’t pull it off. Stroud 2 interceptions to Darnolds one was a key difference in this game. If Ant can continue to play like this versus one of the better coaches in the league then he should have no problem with the rest of the guys in his division. Sp is showing that no matter what team he is, he will make them work.
Eagles 30 VS Saints 27
This was a computer game. I got up 24-4 then tried to kill the clock on offense but let the computer come back. I had to make a game winning drive where Barkley caught a touchdown with no time remaining. Talk about embarrassing.
CHargers 41 Steelers 25
The Steelers win versus the Falcons week one seems like so long ago. The touchdowns of that game haven’t followed the Steelers to this one. Fields limited his turnovers to two however, if you’re going to out duel Justin Herbert that has to be 0. The game was close, but those two interceptions were the box score difference in this one.
Broncos 38 VS Buccaneers 28
Speaking of so long ago…The 72 points that the Bucs put up in week one seems to be a fluke as they have lost ever since that game. This was supposed to be a game where they proved they could beat a great coach with a team advantage. The box score stats look about the same for passing yards, interceptions, and rushing yards but the key difference was the extra touchdown that Nix put up. Both of these teams are trending in opposite directions, with the Broncos shaking off the rust from week 1.
Panthers 28 VS Raiders 49
This game had both teams looking for their first win. Both teams have underwhelming rosters, and it was down to which coach could scheme better. Bryce Young played a phenomenal game throwing for 4 touchdowns but the Raiders trio of quarterbacks played better, throwing for 5 touchdowns total. This combined with the Raiders better rushing attack and the fact they didn’t punt the entire game shows why they won.
Dolphins 40 VS Seahawks 27
The Seahawks only forcing 2 interceptions versus an interception prone coach is what cost them this game. Tua only threw 2 interceptions and we all know when Curt isn’t hurting himself he can play well and stay in games. The Dolphins were able to take advantage of a Sam Howell lead team by forcing interceptions and fumbles. This is what we thought the Dolphins would be doing when the season started. The Hawks are trending down with the loss of Geno and hope to right this ship in a tough division.
Ravens 15 VS Cowboys 33
I really had high hopes that the Ravens could knock off the Cowboys. After what should be a 2-0 start I felt they had a good chance at this one. I was wrong… The Cowboys defense forced Lamar to rely on his arm and he failed that test throwing 2 interceptions and only rushing for 12 yards on 6 attempts. When the Cowboys meager rushing attack can outperform Jackson and Henry, you know you’re in for a long day. Drama is showing the league that he still can get off to a hot start but can he maintain that momentum?
Rams 38 VS 49ers 35
This game should have easily been a 49ers win. Someone tell me why Mccaffrey is only running the ball 9 times? Why is Brock Purdy throwing 44 times especially when you have a lead. The Niners had a lead in this game but forced a dumb throw and it was run back for a pick 6. They never recovered after this. Purdy I believe has the most interceptions in the league and there should be no reason for this. The Niners need to run the ball and play defense, they are literally built for that. As for the Rams, they are bouncing back well after that ugly loss to the Cardinals.
Lions 41 VS Cardinals 17
Looking at the box score and turnovers for each team it’s a surprise that this game was so lopsided. Usually when a team gets blown out it’s because they turned the ball over a ton of times, however, the Cardinals only turned the ball over 3 times, 2 interceptions and 1 fumble. With only one punt mixed in here it would seem that the Lions played the clock game, got up big and moved on.
Chiefs 48 VS Falcons 3
Arod has been playing better in games this season but this game looked more like the games of last season than anything. What’s sad is that the Falcons only turned the ball over twice, with Cousins throwing just two interceptions. They just couldn’t stop Mahomes and company which is something that alot with struggle with this cycle.
Jags 14 VS Bills 41
This was a computer game where the Bills easily took care of the Jags. TBruh should be back next week to play his games. He’ll come back to a beaten down team morale wise. We will see how much rust he can knock off going forward.
Commanders 65 VS Bengals 20
If any team was an enigma this season so far it would have to be the Commanders. They were a team who got 72 points put up on them in week 1 and now they are the ones scoring 60+ on an opponent. Burrow Vs Daniels ended in a win for Daniels. He was able to toss up 4 touchdowns while limiting the interceptions to 2. Burrow on the other hand added 5 more interceptions to his total and is looking like he will regress in the offseason due to the amount of interceptions he is throwing. The AFC North is most likely the easiest division in the league so Vet still has a chance if he can stop the bleeding (interceptions.)
