After a successful playoff berth the Eagles look toward the 2025 season and the first stop is who we are going to actually resign. In this article we will take a look at who is up for resignation and see if they are going to stay on the team or go. We started out with 101M in space.
Retired: RT Lane Johnson 95 OVR:
This was a tough loss. Johnson was old but he could do everything you needed. His cap hit was high but his play on the field made up for it. I hope that we can use the money we get from him to sign a great replacement.
DT Jordan Davis 84 OVR: 5th Year Option (26.6M): Declined
This was just way too much for a 1 year deal. I can sign him for much cheaper than that when his contract is up.
WR Jahan Dotson 77 OVR: 5 Year Option (23.8M): Declined
Just like Davis, this is way too much for Dotson and I feel I can resign him for much cheaper.
ROLB Josh Sweat 84 OVR: Franchise Tagged 1 Year/17M
He originally wanted a 4 year deal worth around 12M per season. This isn’t a bad deal for a Superstar Xfactor pass rusher, however, with his age being 28 I didn’t want to sign him to a long term deal on the off chance that he loses his abilities next season.
RG Mekhi Becton 77 OVR: Resigned 4 Years/32M
With Johnson retiring, I needed to ensure the offensive line remained one of the best in the league and this signing ensured that 3 of the 5 spots are secure for the cycle. Becton needs work on his pass block abilities and that will be focused on this season.
HB Kenneth Gainwell 77 OVR: Resigned 2 Years/9M
He was a solid number 2 back for me this season and on a cheap two year deal he is a solid option in relief of Barkley.
MLB Devin White 77 OVR: Resigned 5 Years/22.1M
He played great as our starting MLB this season and he became the main re-sign during the season. He is locked up for the entire cycle and will continue to get better as the seasons go on.
CB Isaiah Rodgers 80 OVR: Resigned 3 Years/22.2M
With Slay losing 6 speed to go to a 85 speed player, Rodgers now moves up in the depth chart to our number 1 corner. He was paid what he asked for and now must deliver. The expectation is that he now takes over versus the other team’s number one corner so we will see how that goes.
WR Quez Watkins 72 OVR: Resigned 3 Years/11.7M
Watkins came out of free agency and brought the deep ball to Philly. Teams couldnt just sit on the underneath route when he was on the field. He was brought back to complement the slower but more polished receivers in Smith and Brown. With Smith, Brown, and Watkins on the field you have to pick your poison, especially if you’re playing man coverage.
C David Andrews 76 OVR: Resigned 1 year/5.6M
Andrews was brought over midseason for a late pick and did what we needed him to do in order to sure up the offensive line. His pass blocking still needs work but his overall regression did not hit as hard as I thought. He was brought back on a one year deal as a mentor/someone who can start.
TE Albert Okwuegbunam 69 OVR: Resigned 3 Years/14.4M
With Goedert hitting 30 and regressing badly, the Eagles had the option to re-sign Albert O or go with someone else in the draft. He is 6 ‘5 has 86 jumping and is 88 speed. You can’t teach that and that alone is why he was brought back. He will be used in alot of sets this upcoming season.
RG Trai Turner 74 OVR: Resigned 1 Year/3.9M
Turner was signed as a free agent and hasnt regressed that much. While he won’t be brought back to be a starter, he is good enough to be a quality backup.
Players hitting free agency:
LE Milton Williams 75 OVR:
He is a decent young lineman, however, he wasn’t used last season and I prefer to use Nolan Smith on the line this upcoming season. This move made Williams expendable
LT DJ Humphries 76 OVR:
This is the only free agent that I wanted that I couldn’t resign. He did not regress that much and is still a great pass blocking offensive lineman. The problem is that he wanted a 1 Year/10M contract. That is just way too much for someone who is only 76 overall.
CB Avonte Maddox 74 OVR:
Maddox is still a decent player, he just drew the short string on our team. I don’t have any extra room for aging defensive backs, especially with Slay and Bradberry on the roster.
MLB Zack Baun 69 OVR:
I never used him and never would. I doubt anyone picks him up in free agency either.
MLB Kwon Alexander 70 OVR:
The man, the myth, the legend. Kwon didn’t want to be brought back on a team friendly team so he will hit free agency. This was sad news to us as he was a key part of our playoff season.
That is all for now, however, I will be back to recap what the Eagles do in free agency!
