Coach Frozen had gotten his team prepared for kickoff week 1 in Seattle as they would face off with the Seahawks. This would not only be Coach Frozen’s first game as a head coach but it was also the first start for their Franchise QB in Noah Fifita. The game was close throughout the entire game and despite having the lead going into half, the 49ers weren’t able to keep it up as they would fall to Seattle 28-35.
Noah Fifita struggled a bit in his debut, he had been pressured a bunch which would lead to him taking 7 sacks. His arm accuracy wasn’t as good as it could be and the throws that he missed really hurt the team as they would be incomplete or intercepted by the opposition. He would end the game with a stat line of 328 yds, 22-37, 2 tds-3 ints. 72.8 QBR. Despite the struggles that Fifita had in his debut, he also shined as the play caller on offense and is going to be keeping the starting spot as he looks to try and get his first win of his career.
the rushing attack could have been better with McCaffrey leading the way but the defensive front of the Seahawks had keyed up on it and limited his production to what Coach Frozen expects from a stud like him. Despite the tough rush defense, McCaffrey still averaged 4.4 YPC with the main load of the rushes. Brandon Aiyuk was able to take his only rush for 12 yds as well to help the team out on the ground.
Noah Fifita was very generous in passing today as he would throw the ball to 9 different receivers in the game. Evan Stewart came into his second year shining as he would lead the team in receiving with 92 yds on 4 recs and a td in the game. He was able to feast with the deep looks as Aiyuk was the main guy getting doubled throughout the game. The rookie Luke Haisz had a great game in his debut, he would be second in receiving with 71 yds on 4 recs. This is what Coach Frozen expected from him after he struggled to find his catching ways in the preseason matches. McCaffrey was able to get over 100 all purpose yds as he got 59 yds in the receiving attack as well which was crucial for Fifita with his reliability. Lewis Bond had formed a connection with Noah through the preseason and training camp and Noah rewarded his effort by throwing him the first career tds for both of them which gave the Niners the lead early in the first.
The offensive line was disappointing for Noah, they had not given him the opportunity to shine as much since they were giving up pressure on a lot of his drop backs, this would also be what made Noah make more mistakes since his passing clock had accelerated and he would take sacks if he wasn’t quick with his reads.
The defense had played great for the 49ers in this one, there were some mistakes here and there that costed them but when you finish a game with 12 tfls, 4 sacks, 1 FF and FR, 1 safety, and 2 picks. It’s sad to see your offense not capitalize on it and fall short of the victory mark.
The defensive front had played a solid game for the Niners, they had racked up 4 sacks in this one, a surprise was that the stud in Nick Bosa was unable to get any but Shemar Stewart was able to lead the team with 2, Logan Hall who is filling in for Michael Pierce was second with 1.5 himself. Walter Nolen and Danielle Hunter round up the sacks with .5 each.
The secondary were able to keep the passing attack of the Seahawks contained for most of the game, if the offense didn’t turn the ball over as much, there definitely could have been the focal point in the week 1 victory. Talanoa Hufanga had an amazing pick 6 that helped catapult the lead for the Niners in the first half, he jumped the route perfectly and outran Kenneth Walker for 94 yds to the crib. Will Johnson was able to also get a huge pick that he was able to take 29 yds.
The kicking attack of Jake Moody was perfect in this game, he would make 2 50+ yd fgs with one being 55 yds, his only miss came from a block on an extra point but overall he never made Coach Frozen scared to send him out there. Mitch Wishnowsky had to punt 2 times in the game that would net 93 yds combined.
With this loss, the team is looking to get its first win of the season as it starts its second of six away games against the New York Giants.
