The AFC vs the NFC…is this a real debate? Well, we’re not here for opinions, we’re here for the facts. Let’s break down the conference records of AFC vs NFC this season division by division [as of Week 16]. Keep in mind each team plays one extra out of conference game per season…:
AFC East (vs NFC South):
Bills: 3-1 (vs Atlanta week 17 left)
Dolphins: 5-0
Patriots: 3-2 (1-2 under Wumbo, 2-0 under Problem)
Jets: 2-2 (vs Bucs week 17 left)
Total: 13-5
Synopsis: The 12-3 record dis-including Wumbo is convincing, but this is against the NFC’s weakest division. Stay tuned…
AFC North (vs NFC North):
Ravens: 2-2 (vs Rams week 17 left) [0-1 under Mike D, 2-1 under Jac)
Bengals: 1-4
Browns: 1-4
Steelers: 1-4
Total: 5-14
Synopsis: The weakest AFC division against the strongest NFC was bound to be a bloodbath….Stay tuned…
AFC South (vs NFC West):
Colts: 5-0
Titans: 4-1
Jaguars: 4-1
Texans: 4-0 (vs week 17 vs 49ers left)
Total: 17-2
Synopsis: Arguably the strongest division in the entire league playing a weaker NFC conference. Only a Rams and Seahawks win slightly blemish the record.
AFC West (vs NFC East):
Broncos: 4-1
Chargers: 4-1
Chiefs: 3-2
Raiders: 2-3
Total: 13-7
Synopsis: This is a good matchup of 2 good divisions, and the AFC West took care of business.
NFC North (vs AFC North):
Packers: 5-0
Lions: 4-1
Bears: 3-2
Vikings: 3-2
Total: 15-5
Synopsis: The NFC North, believe it or not, gets undersold here since they played the AFC North. Presumably the best division in the NFC, we’d like to think they could’ve given any AFC division a run for their money.
NFC East (AFC West):
WFT: 2-3
Cowboys: 3-2
Eagles: 1-4
Giants: 1-4
Total: 7-13
Synopsis: The tale of 2 halves in the East that is reflected in their overall records. WFT and Dallas competing while Philly and New York struggle mightily.
NFC South (vs AFC East):
Bucs: 2-2 (vs Jets week 17 left)
Saints: 1-4
Falcons: 0-4 (vs Bills week 17 left)
Panthers: 0-5
Total: 3-15
Synopsis: 2 Wumbo wins before the Problem Patriots takeover saved this from being the opposite of the AFC South. Yikes.
NFC West (vs AFC South):
Rams: 1-3 (vs Ravens week 17 left)
49ers: 0-4 (vs Texans week 17 left)
Seahawks: 2-3
Cardinals: 0-5
Total: 3-15
Synopsis: One win apiece from the Seahawks and Rams, sprinkled in with a Seahawks win over the Steelers. That’s it. Facing off against the AFC South is no picnic, so we’ll see if the West can rebound in interconference play in 2022.
AFC Total: 48-28
Conference Synopsis: Take away the AFC North and the record is 43-14. Even with the AFC North, still very one-sided
NFC Total: 28-48
Conference Synopsis: A 6-30 combined showing from the South and West are crippling.
Overall Synopsis: There are 4 games left in week 17 that can change the records, but won’t change the fact that the AFC obliterated the NFC. As expected. But should the NFC be this bad? Perhaps not, and an NFC comeback tour in 2022 may be in the cards…
