This is our last official check in to see how the Giants rookies are doing so far this year. We will take a look at their stats from the last two weeks and see if any of them are making an impact or potentially in line for any early awards.
Edge Abdul Carter SUPERSTAR 82->83->84-> 87OVR (RD1P3):
Player TKL SCK INT FF FR TD
Carter 32.0 13.0 1 0 0
Carter struggled in the final two games. He only recorded three tackles, which took him out of the top place for NFC defensive rookie of the year. This was very disappointing for him as he was leading in this race for the entire season. The entire Giants defense couldn’t get a sack despite having possibly the best defensive line in the game. Teams are getting the ball off quick and using play action to negate the line and it’s hurting the entire defense. Carter, however, did have one of the best seasons for a rookie and should be happy with his performance. At the time of this writing, he is in the lead for the defensive line for the year, which would be great for him to win.
Carter was able to go from an 82 overall to an 87 overall. He was focus trained every week except for the 4 weeks that the training was brought down from 6-3 players because its a crappy feature. This, along with his play, and attribute requests, have made him one of the highest overall rookies in the league.
HB Cam Skattebo STAR 74 OVR (RD4P3):
Player Att Yds Avg TD Lng 20+ BKT
Skattebo 49 281 5.7 1 26 2 7
The run game in total was one of the worst in the league, however, that wasn’t on Skattebo. When he was giving the ball he produced. His 5.7 average per run was one of the best in the league and if he was given more carries, and became the lead back, I am sure he could have eclipsed the 1000 yard mark. He isn’t the type of player that Coach Burn likes to use so he won’t become a starter in New York. His only chance at being a starter will be on another team if someone comes calling.
QB Jaxson Dart NORMAL 71->74 OVR (RD1P25):
Player Cmp Att % Yds Avg TD INT Lng
Dart 396 556 71.2 5853 10.5 53 20 83
Dart ended the season with two 4 interception games in the final four weeks which took him out of the NFC offensive player of the year race. In both of these games, versus the Commanders and Raiders, Dart played very unusual. He wasn’t his normal self as he had a lot of unforced interceptions. He hardly was pressured but the ball was either underthrown or out of reach of the receiver, straight to the defender. In the final game of the season, he was injured in the first half and never came back. This resulted in him not getting his 6000 yards or 60 touchdowns goal. While he didn’t throw for 60 touchdowns, he did run in 7 which makes an overall touchdown count of 60. He is a rookie who will need to clean these types of stuff up but he proved that he is the legitimate starter on this team.
He stayed at a 74 overall for most of the season, however, he was focus trained every week which resulted in his current 7 overall points which hasn’t been used. The hope is that he can move to star development, then have his xp remain low in order to be focus trained in the offseason and training camp in order to be at a 85 overall by the start of next season. His current xp is 7000 to upgrade so we will see if this makes a difference.
Outside of the late season interceptions, he had a fantastic year and ended up in the top of a lot of statistics this season. Here is a breakdown of his rankings compared to other quarterbacks.
Attempts: 6th 1st(rookies)
Completions: 6th 1st(rookies)
Passing Yards: 9th 1st(rookies)
Passing TD: 11th 1st(rookies)
Interceptions: 23rd 4th(rookies)
While Dart didn’t win NFC rookie of the year, statistically, he was the best quarterback of the class. It will be interesting to see how these quarterbacks rank at the end of the cycle. Rumors are swirling that most of the rookie quarterbacks will be replaced in this upcoming draft.
