Ohio State was set up for failure week 1 as they were forced to go to the Swamp to play the 4th ranked team in the country coming off a playoff run and their Heisman winning QB DJ Lagway.
Ohio State is coming off a 7-6 season and a Bowl game loss to LSU after head coach HD had to take leave for personal issues at the time.
Last year the Buckeyes were riddled with injury at QB along with bad play and turnovers from Julian Sayin. In the transfer portal Coach HD was able to persuade Avery Johnson to become a buckeye right under the lose of the last team to beat them, LSU.
This week new Buckeye QB Avery Johnson led the team into the Swamp, backs against the wall and against all odds. Johnson was able to start the senior season off going 12/16 for 181 yards and 3 TDs, connecting with the best prospect going into this upcoming draft Jeremiah Smith 4 times for 121 yards and 2 TDs.
The stars of the game though are on defense. The front 4 made up of Eddrick Houston(DT), Jamerson Willis(LEDGE), Beau Atkinson(REDGE), Jason Moore(DT), all came away with sacks including Will LB Garrett Stover. Getting DJ Lagway dirty and seeing ghost led to inaccurate passes and an Interception to Sophmore FS Faheem Delane. Once the Buckeyes were up 2 scores all eyes were on the two headed dragon of Sophomroe RB Bo Jackson and Junior James Peoples. Jackson being 11-130-0 and Peoples 8-68-1 along with QB1 and WR Brandon Innis taking an option run into the endzone.
In the end the Buckeyes walk out owning the Gators 45-28 with their name on the Swamp forever. We expect to see a decent drop for Florida from 4 and hopefully OSU back into the top 25 as next week South Carolina comes to Columbus to challenge the Buckeyes!
