Scouting in Hindsight: QB

A look at the Chicago Bears’ scouting of quarterbacks, which is split into three tiers: First Round Talent, Rounds 2-3 Talent, and Late Round Talent. Each position’s scouting takes into account attributes, most importantly, physicals and age second, and ddt third, along with factoring in personal preferences and who fits the scheme or mold of a Monster of the Midway.

Round 1 Talent

LaNorris Sellers

Arch Manning

Rounds 2-3 Talent

Trinidad Chambliss

Taylen Green

Kaidon Salter

Haynes King

Late Rounds Talent (4-7)

Drew Allar

Garrett Nussmeier

Hindsight

I was never drafting a quarterback that was on this list because I knew it would be my 7th round pick or as an UDFA. I am extremely surprised that John Mateer didn’t make his way on the Bears’ board, that’s on me, but I didn’t spend much time pre-draft on quarterbacks because I knew I could scout during. I ended up wanting a couple of guys who also ended up really bad, and got Robby Ashford, one of the worst of the bunch. At least I didn’t draft Haynes King in round two, even though that was basically his grade. Allar and Nussmeier are very solid, but this was a short list and I was once again looking at speed. Stay tuned for defense tomorrow, which is what I really spent my time on.
