In this mini series we will continue to take a look at the Giants offensive and defensive statistics every 4 weeks This will give the league a nice update every few weeks on how the team is doing overall in these categories.
The Giants defense is pathetic, one of the worst groups so far this season and it is a pretty shocking fact. The Giants lost Abdul Carter in week one. Carter had a fantastic rookie season and was the best player on the Giants defense last season. For this, he was given the superstar x factor development trait. Between last season being focus trained and this offseason, Carter was able to get to 92 overall. He needed 8000 xp points to upgrade to the next overall. The goal was for him to be focus trained every week and to get to 95 overall by midseason. With this, he would have earned his final ability. This all came crashing down with his season ending injury in week 1.
Without Carter, the Giants defensive line is still pretty formidable, just less. Kayvon came in to replace Carter and while he isn’t a superstar x factor, he is a star player who can do well in his own right. So far, he and the rest of the Giants defensive line hasn’t done anything. This also extends to the secondary. A defense that was rated worse overall last season was actually doing better than this one that has a lot of high overall players on it.
The secondary has 4 players rated 85 or better, only the fourth cornerback and strong safety are lower overalls. The entire defense is just lost out there. The offense has to score almost every drive just to stay in the game. This isn’t sustainable and something will need to change if the Giants want to compete in this division. We will be back in week 8 to see if the defense has played any better or not.
