Five weeks of Premier Madden League football have come and gone. We are officially onto week 6 of the season and we are here to check who is leading each division and who is officially the bottom feeder of each division.
*Standings are taken from MyMadden
NFC East:
Leader: New York Giants (4-1) – The NFC East is the only division with three teams over .500 at the moment. The Giants have been a pleasant surprise this season. They have one of the worst rated rosters in the league. The caveat to this team is the fact that they have speed all over their roster particularly at the running back, wide receiver and cornerback position. The Giants have the number one rush offense and the number one pass defense. This is a winning combination and if they can keep this up they will be the division winner at the end of the season.
Bottom: Dallas Cowboys (0-5) – The best roster in the division isn’t supposed to be at the bottom of the division. The Cowboys were supposed to be in the NFC champion conversation and now they are looking like they should be in the top draft pick conversation. The thing about this team is they have played possibly the hardest schedule to start the season. They have faced the three remaining undefeated teams as well as two teams that are over .500. Their season isn’t over as they have been in every game except for one. Once their schedule lightens up, we expect them to get back to the team we expected them to be at the beginning of the season.
NFC West:
Leader: Los Angeles Rams: (5-0) – The Rams schedule hasn’t been the hardest, in fact he has only played one team over .500, however, he is getting the job done. The Rams are built to win now, and DK is taking advantage of that. His schedule does get tougher down the stretch, however, as long as he continues to play the same way, he will stay the division leader and win it by the end of the season.
Bottom: San Francisco 49ers: (1-4) – The 49ers are a good team that was expected to be in the NFC West race, or at least in the wildcard race. They are loaded with talent, however, the offense is struggling to get going. Trey Lance, George Kittle, and Deebo Samuel need to get on page and start producing if the 49ers want any shot of saving their season.
NFC North:
Leader : Detroit Lions(5-0) – Coach Kmac is a superbowl winning coach who has taken the bottom of the barrel players and made them play like stars. The Lions are quite the bottom of the barrel, however, they are pretty close. Kmac has taken this team by the reins and created an offense that leads the league in total yards, and is second in points and passing yards. This is a great feat, especially considering his fastest player on offense has been hurt. Kmac is in a tough division so they will be all coming for him, however, if no one can stop his offense then it won’t take long to crown him the NFC NOrth Champions.
Bottom: Chicago Bears (1-4) – The Bears are an interesting team and a unique challenge for a superbowl winning coach. Inheriting a pretty good Jets roster, only to get a top pick in his first season wasn’t expected for Spdot, however, this was the catalyst for his superbowl run. The Bears arent those Jets, however, may another run like last year be in store for Spdot if he ends up with a top 10 pick.
NFC South:
Leader: Tampa Bay Buccaneers: (5-0) – A Lot of users in PML questioned giving Codes a top 3 team. This was a guy who inherited a super bowl winning Colts roster, only to be given a real life superbowl winning roster. He claimed that only a few users were better than him, even going as far as making a list. This should have been someone deserving a lower tier team, like maybe the Falcons, but I digress. It’s a superbowl or bust season for Codes and so far he’s doing exactly what he said he would do and that is win. We still have a lot of games to play, however, if Codes continues to play well he may get Brady another superbowl ring.
Bottom: Carolina Panthers: (0-5) – JT and his Panthers have a routine that has spanned cycle to cycle since the start of the Premier Madden League. He builds his team while building the league and at the end of season 3 he makes a good run for season 4 and 5. SO far this is true for this season, however, once all of the new additions are done, I feel like he will break out of his routine and compete for a division title sooner than people think.
The Giants, Rams, Lions, and Buccaneers would make the playoffs at the moment as division leaders. The Packers, Seahawks, and Commanders would hold the wildcard spots. Each division has teams competing for the title and wildcard spots so I expect all of this to change by my next check in. The surprising thing about this is we have 3 lower tier teams in the playoff projections. The coaches have to be commanded for their gameplay, however, will they be able to continue to win games given the limitations on their rosters. We will see next time in our mid-year check in.
