The Bengals were very busy in the offseason trading away two of their defensive stars so they had to go into the draft with a plan to replace the holes they created. They went and grabbed four defensive linemen who all have tons of speed to rush off the line for Lamar and can also play the run really well when it comes to suffocating Dobbins behind the line. They used their second round pick on a player that the franchise has openly said is going to be the anchor of their defense in MLB Owen Pappoe who ran a 4.43 40 time. Overall the Bengals added a lot of physical freaks to their roster and a bunch of young depth who has potential to take the reigns as key starters throughout the season. If this front office can capitalize on their talent and push them all in the right direction this defense can be a scary unit in the future
Cleveland Browns
Midnight Madness Draft Grade: C+
WR Josh Downs (78)
C Broderick Jones (70)
TE Erick All (70)
LE Will McDonald IV (69)
LOLB Payton Wilson (69)
DT Keeanu Benton (68)
LG Caleb Chandler (66)
With not having their 1st round pick and being tight on cap space the Browns spent this draft looking to bring in pieces to help replace older guys in the future/fill out the roster with cheap contracts. Their biggest pick in the draft came in the 4th round where Josh Downs fell to them.. Look for them to build upon him so he can replace the expensive aging Amari Cooper in the future. They also brought in a young center who in a couple seasons could start and be a leader of that line. Overall the Browns had a pretty solid draft without a 1st round, it wasn’t filled of physical freaks or day one starters but it improves their roster all around and helps them build for the future a bit more.
Baltimore Ravens
Midnight Madness Grade: B
WR Jordan Addison (74)
HB Jahmyr Gibbs (74)
HB Devon Achane (74)
WR A.T Perry (72)
LE Habbakkuk Baldonado (68)
MLB Cody Simon (67)
CB Storm Duck (67)
LOLB Bo Calvert (65)
QB Malik Cunningham (60)
The Ravens brought in A LOT of pieces to help with their already high powered offense. They were lacking a lot last season with depth/star power at the wide receiver position and they ended up being able to bring in Jordan Addison and A.T Perry with two of their top picks. Jordan Addison is going to be able to help spread the field out a lot for this team whereas A.T Perry will be able to go down the field and be that contested catch/jump ball guy that Lamar has been looking for. To add onto those guys they also bring in two more running backs to add the top rushing offense of PML with Jahmyr Gibbs and Devon Achane. I kind of question the idea of adding both of these backs when J.K Dobbins is thriving but reports are that J.K is on the move out of Baltimore and that the idea of a committee seems to be more appealing to them. The rest of the picks are pretty much depth besides Cody Simon and Bo Calvert who both are coming in to help add even more speed to one of the fastest linebacker units in the league. Overall this was a very good draft and they were able to replace a lot of positions/add more talent for cheap.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Midnight Madness Grade – D
CB Riley Moss (72)
DT Gervon Dexter SR (67)
CB Kei’Trel Clark (65)
Although the Steelers made a lot of good moves in the offseason to bring in stud Chris Jones to add more fire to their defensive line and adding a young franchise quarterback to help improve their offense in Trevor Lawrence that left them with only 3 picks to use on the draft. They were able to use one of their picks to add a solid depth/future starter in the slot in Riley Moss but the other two picks are basically just some added depth.
