If anyone has been taking a look around the league following the Season 2 Pre-season, they may be asking, who is Julius Chestnut?
Julius Chestnut is a former UDFA in the 2022 class from Sacred Heart University, a school in the FCS. His accolades at Sacred Heart include:
- AFCA 1st-team All-American (2021)
- Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Year (2021)
- Associated Press FCS 1st-team All-American (2021)
- Associated Press FCS 3rd-team All-American (2019)
- 1st-team All-Northeast Conference (2019)
- Northeast Conference Offensive Rookie of the Year (2018)
Needless to say, he was very accomplished for a much smaller program. He was signed by the Tennessee Titans following the draft and was released before week 1. Luckily, he found a new home in Philadelphia. During the first season he did not see the field behind newly acquired Derrick Henry, also from Tennessee, and Miles Sanders. Following the offseason departure of Sanders, Chestnut was signed to a new contract to compete for the backup role behind Henry.
Despite not having game time in season 1, Chestnut took full opportunity in the Preseason rushing for a league leading 339 yards and 5 TDs. He also had 86 yards and a TD through the air. Primary Chestnut ran through tacklers with his 228 lb frame.
Keep an eye out for Chestnut when King Henry rests on his throne during the season. Along with his extra training he was sent to, he will be one of the best backups in the league.
