Four weeks of Premier Madden League football have come and gone. We are officially onto week 5 of the season and we are here to check who is leading each division and who is officially the bottom feeder of each division.
*Standings are taken from MyMadden
AFC East:
Leader: Buffalo Bills (3-1) – The Bills have done what most thought they would to start the season. They are the clear favorite and best team in the division. They did have that little slip up in week 1 versus the New York Jets, however, they made up for it in their second game of the season. The Bills blew out the Jets, showing that they are over week 1 and moving on to bigger and better things.
Bottom: New England Patriots (1-3) – The Patriots have one win on the season. Ironically their wins come from the same people each season. The Patriots looked good in some of their losses, however, their win versus the Jets was a statement game. They might only win a few games this season, however, they can always count on beating the Jets at least once, maybe twice unless there is another 100 point content wager.
AFC West:
Leader: Los Vegas Raiders (4-0) – The Raiders have come out hot this season. They are here to prove that their coach is not “floormat” as he was dubbed by some in season one. Being undefeated throughout the first four weeks is a great feat, however, beating all 3 division mates while being undefeated is even better. The Raiders have set themselves up for the rest of the season and if they can continue this hot streak, they will find themselves in the playoffs at the end of the season.
Bottom: Los Angeles Chargers (1-3)- What can be said about this team? The Chargers have all the tools any coach would need to succeed and they just aren’t. If you can’t win with this team then who can you win with? The Chargers had some expectations this cycle and they clearly aren’t fulfilling those. It doesn’t help that they take their superstar quarterback out of the game in the second quarter because they don’t want to throw any more interceptions with him. Thats not winning football.
AFC North:
Leader: Cincinnati Bengals (3-1) – The Bengals are showing the league that they deserved to be where they were last season. Coach Cammy told the league what he would do if he got a superstar quarterback and he is continuing on that promise. With the runner up in last season’s superbowl still in the division, the Bengals will need to continue their streak of great play to keep their division lead.
Bottom: Pittsburgh Steelers (0-4) – The Steelers traded for all kinds of things to better themselves and their roster this offseason, however, nothing has worked out for them so far this season. When you trade for a superstar quarterback, generally your team and play should improve. Lawrence has been one of the worst quarterbacks this season only throwing for one touchdown, while throwing for ten interceptions. If this pace keeps up, he will lose his abilities at the end of the season.
AFC South:
Leader: Jacksonville Jaguars (4-0) – The Jaguars are proving that you don’t need a superstar quarterback to win in this league. They are undefeated after trading away their franchise quarterback. There aren’t too many teams who could make this claim. Three out of four of their wins have been blowouts. As of right now they only play 4 teams over .500 for the rest of the season. If any team had a shot of going undefeated this season it would be the Jaguars.
Bottom: Houston Texans (0-4) – The Texans roster was pitiful when the coach got them this offseason. He thought the right moves were to mortgage the team’s future and trade for players in order to win now. He traded for Winston, Kamara, and Samuel, while he had Cooks, OBJ, and Pierce already on his roster. These trades have not translated into wins, and the Texans offense is one of the worst in the league. They need to start winning and fast, because next season they don’t have a first and half of their team will regress badly.
The Bills, Raiders,Bengals, and Jaguars are the top teams in the AFC. At this moment, the Jaguars might be the best team in that conference and they have the schedule to make it stay that way. The rest of the conference has alot of 2-2 teams fighting it out so the wildcard spots are wide open. The AFC was lackluster last season, however, it looks like it will be more competitive this season. We will be back at the midseason point to check back on these teams and see if anything has changed.
