Transcript: Bills Head Coach Press Conference

What were the keys to the team’s victory this week?

This week we play Wimmy, he's a very familiar foe that was in my division next year and that I've played in madden for years.
My keys to victory:
– Stop the run, Wimmy is a top 5 runner so if we slow the run game down keeping him behind the sticks and force him into passing situations, we're in good shape.
– Play been but don't break defense, Wimmy loves those methodical 10-15 play drives, it's our job to not give up the big play and force him into mistakes as the drive Progresses.
-Establish the outside run- Wimmy has a top 3 Dline in the game with 2 dogs in the interior. We have to be able to run outside the tackles and establish the run in general. Getting behind the sticks and passing 40 times Vs this front is a recipe for disaster.
– Limit turnovers, it's simple, we limit the turnovers we win, I can't think of a game I lost not turning the ball over ever in my pml career. I cannot be f***** with if I play a clean game.

Can you summarize what it was like playing against the Eagles last week?

The Eagles are a way tougher out than people think, my defense has carried me this season and he gashed them putting up 500 yards of total offense. It was a game where I jumped out to a 20 point led midway through the 2nd quarter only to surrender that lead and found myself in a dogfight. After a few late turnovers the game got out of hand, but I like what I saw out of Wumbo. If he can keep a balanced attack and establish the run game teams will be forced to stack the box with 8 to 9 people which leaves one on one coverage with 2 #1's in Devonta and Aj. The Eagles showcased what they can do in our game and if they can use that same formula every week, I see a potential playoff push.

Can you talk about the development of Jaelyn Duncan so far?

Jaelyn Ducan hasn't been what we thought when we selected him in the first round of the 2023 draft. I'm not saying he's a bust but if he dosen't pick it up soon he could find himself fighting for a job in the offseason. Before completely giving up on him we're going to try and move him around to see where he fits.

Can you talk about what it’s like to prepare to go against a player like Terry McLaurin?

Going against a player like scary Terry is very "scary". He's a threat from anywhere on the field whether it's in the short game, intermediate or over the top, he's a threat from all over. He's a player that plays bigger than his size and can make all the bib body contested catches a 6'7 receiver would make. He's that type of receiver that requires a box n 1 like coverage, while manning him up I will put a defender underneath and overtop in coverage on certain downs.

How would you assess where your team is near the halfway point of the season?

I like where my team is at so far this season, although we could be better. Defense is top tier and offense is coming along slowly. We're starting to limit the turnovers along with establishing the run game more and more. If we can continue to limit the big plays and limit the turnovers on offense, I see a deep playoff run in the future. The biggest weakness is running between the tackles and if that comes along watch out.
