Transcript: Bears Head Coach Press Conference

How does the loss this week prepare you for the next game?

It serves as a reminder that in this league every game matters, and not only every game, but every drive. We come up empty on our first drive and they get a score. That puts us down early and in a bad position for the rest of the game

Can you summarize what it was like playing against the Broncos last week?

It felt like we had control for most of the game but were unable to put them away until the final drive

Can you talk about the development of Quentin Johnston so far?

He's been very streaky, either having a huge game or being a non-factor. The hope is by the end of the season he is consistently having those big games and being a much needed difference maker in the pass game.

Can you talk about what it’s like to prepare to go against a player like Micah Parsons?

My typical thoughts are that one player is not going to beat us, but that is what he did.

How has Ryan Tannehill’s experience in the league helped the team so far?

He has helped Justin to learn to manage games and to close them out. we have been much better in one score games this year than a year ago.

What is the status of Rodney Hudson and when is he set to return?

Hudson should return when we face the Cardinals, he wants to be able to play against his former team.

What kind of player do you see when you look at Dak Prescott?

I see someone that in madden typically is not valued as a top tier QB, as he doesn't have any outstanding physical qualities, but he gets the job done.

Over your career, what makes a team better at not turning the ball over as the season goes along? What kind of things you need to emphasize? How much of it is coaching? How much of it is a mental part? Physical part?

A lot of it is mental, accepting a sack or throwaway instead of a turnover, as well as having our ballcarriers focus on holding on to the ball rather than juking or spinning.

What were some of the contributing factors to the loss this week?

Poor pass protection and no pass rush, simple as that.

How quickly can you tell if a young player is a football player if he thinks about it because it seems like at the Combine they’re all saying the right thing and it’s the job. How quickly does it take?

The final week of the preseason

How much of a problem is DeMarcus Lawrence on the defensive line?

He makes Parsons so much more difficult to handle because if you put too much attention on parsons Lawrence will burn you.

I want to ask you about the receiver position in general. How have you seen that position evolve in importance over the years and how does having a player like WR Quentin Johnston sort of factor into that perspective?

I think WR matters now more than ever, with how the game is played. Wr is still a depth position and having an alpha is nice, but you need others as well.

Did you scout Peter Skoronski before the draft? If so, what stood out about him?

We were more focused on signing linemen in free agency and bringing in perimeter players in the draft

How do you see the competition level in the NFC North currently?

Probably the highest level in PML, I don't know if many other divisions come close to what is happening in the North.

Can you describe kind of the energy or the mood and the vibe in the building now coming in the home stretch?

We gotta get it done, we had a win and in game last season for the playoffs and came up short. We don't want that feeling again.

When the schedules were released this past offseason, analysts said you had one of the easier schedules they've seen. Do you see it that way as well?

I don't think anything comes easy in this league, and especially not in this division.

Your team is one of the oldest teams in the league in terms of average age. How do you feel about the future of this team while not having as many young players as other teams? Do you think having an older team has its benefits?

All of our key players will likely be on the roster for then next 3 seasons, and with the draft capital we have we have the ability to add even more youth.

Can you speak to the overall team health?

Getting healthy when we need it the most.

What are your thoughts about the Cowboys just in general as a team?

Better than their record says.
