Overreactions & Reality Checks for PML

The NFC West is the Best Division in PML

Overreaction or Reality: Reality

Like it or not, this division is forreal. With DK coming off a Super Bowl win, Z star and the Seahawks taking out the Green Bay Packers, Dlloyd and the Cardinals making quick work of the Miami Dolphins, and Ant Dawg with the 49ers over coming the Vikings, all the teams is this division seem to be kicking on all cylinders. At one point it could have been debated that the NFC North or the NFC East was the clear cut top tier division, but early in this season 3, the NFC West are standing tall.

Browns will go 0-17

Overreaction or reality: Reality

Week 1 we saw this Browns team give up 60 to the Chiefs and throw 5 INTs. Week 2 they took an OT loss to break the Pittsburgh Steelers winless streak after they themselves went 0-17 last szn. This game was kinda like a passing of the torch. So far Nick Chubb has 56 Carrys to Kareem hunts 3. This could be one of the most dominant 2 RB sets in the league but instead we will only see Hunt when Chubb is suspended mid season. The real test will be week 7 when the Browns face off against the eagles. One will not be 0-17. But another game against the Steelers & facing off against the Chargers week 10 are pretty much most of the winnable games for these browns. Their biggest issue as a team overall was really emphasized in the way they lost week 2. The amount of the points the offense gives up to the defense is a problem.

There will be new leader in the NFC West

Overreaction or reality: Reality

The Arizona Cardinals & Seattle Seahawks have started 2024 off 2-0 and there’s a new QB starting for the Rams. The Cardinals have impressed with a comeback against the 49ers and keeping it going into week 2 and dominating the dolphins. The offense has been pretty efficient while the defensive playmakers have been playmaking. A huge test for this team as they face off against the LA Rams week 3. Meanwhile the Seattle Seahawks have 2 quality Ws against the top of the NFC North already. The defense has contained both offenses well while not making mistakes on offense. The ground game has also been a huge part.

The Houston Texans are a playoff team

Overreaction or Reality: Overreaction

The Texans are off to a hot 2-0 start and their user seems to have all the confidence in the world. They’ve beaten their two opponents by a total combined margin of 65 points while remaining in control of each game (thanks to a little stat padding and a few unnecessary scores). Nevertheless, the Texans are finally beating teams they should be beating and are in prime position to make a run at the playoffs. Drama is locked in this season and quite frankly he could be a top 10 PML user if he doesn’t get in his own way. Now comes the ‘however’. I worry about the upcoming schedule on the Texans slate.  Aside from getting a few winnable opponents Arod, HD, Nef, Curt and CBBrooks, he will still have to play his own division 6 times (JC, Hype, Bubba 2x each), and then the AFC East (Fallen, Bubba, Que), and lastly the NFC North (Dot, KingMike, Ceo). Hypothetically, if Drama can clean up on the 5 winnable games, he still needs 5-6 wins from the rest of the schedule. I’m not sold yet on this. While it isn’t out of the realm the way he has been playing to be calling the Houston Texans a playoff team, with this particular schedule, is an overreaction and may stay this way based on the nature of his divisional competition.

Eagles rookie Drake Maye will join the 70+ interception club

Reality or Overreaction: Reality

Drake Maye was a huge red flag coming out of preseason by finishing with 0 touchdowns and 13 interceptions through 3 partial appearances. Through two regular season games the rookie sits at 3 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The reason I call this a reality is I feel the Eagles will be playing a whole lot of come from behind football this season, essentially forcing Maye to pass the ball 30+ attempts a game. We have already seen coach CBs tendency to keep pushing the ball through the air when trailing from behind and it takes discipline to know when to call it a game and go into damage control mode.  A quick projectiond model has Maye finishing at 25 touchdowns and 85 interceptions this season if they continue playing at the same pace, ultimately smashing the 70 mark accomplished this cycle held by a duo of Steelers quarterbacks.

Derek Carr should be starting in Minnesota:
Overreaction or reality: Overreaction
In my opinion Zach Wilson should be the unquestioned starter in Minnesota. He has the higher throw power, is younger, and the Vikings traded a first round pick for him. Yes, he has struggled but so has Derek Carr. Wilson at least has the upside of progression from playing, while Carr was let go by the Raiders who really didn’t have much of a replacement for him.

The Jets are the favorites in the AFC East

Overreaction or reality: Overreaction
The Jets are 2-0 with wins over divisional opponents, including the Bills. I believe the Jets started their last season 2-0 against the same opponents. The Jets could very well win this division, but just because they are the leaders after 2 weeks I would not say makes them the favorites. There are 3 playoff contenders in the AFC East, and I would be surprised if all 3 are able to make it. This means that the Jets will have to earn more key wins over the Bills and Dolphins if they want to achieve their goal. With other teams also looking like they’ve taken steps forward I wouldn’t be surprised to see multiple new faces in the AFC playoffs this season.

The 49ers have a shot at the playoffs

Overreaction or reality: Reality

I know the 49ers are in a tough conference and an even tougher division but with the way Coach Antdawg has his players playing this season shows a lot of promise. Last season that 49ers roster was depleted and they were still playing tough against a lot of tough teams even winning some of those tough games. This year after being able to bring in a lot of new young/veteran players to help fill this roster you can really see the difference in play in this team and how they are playing good football. They should’ve beat the Cardinals week one who had a big win against the Dolphins week two if it wasn’t for bad coaching decisions on the 49ers part. Then they went on to produce a major comeback victory against a respected head coach in Ceo and the Vikings. It won’t be an easy task for this team to make the playoffs but with the film they are putting on the field I have high hopes that they can squeak into that 6th-7th spot all they really have to do is win a couple of division games then try to make a run against other teams on their schedule.

The Patriots will miss the playoffs again

Overreaction or reality: Reality

Hey I’m not saying that Nefs roster isn’t good enough or that he’s not good enough to make the playoffs. I just think looking at this Patriots schedule that this year will be very challenging for this team to try and contend for a playoff spot. If you look at their schedule they play against 8 former playoff teams (2 of them being in his division) and a couple of teams who were on the cusp of fighting for that final playoff spot last season. I do think the Patriots will improve their win percentage this season, I just don’t believe it will be enough to secure a spot with how hard of a schedule they have in front of them. Hope they can prove me wrong.
