How does the loss this week prepare you for the next game?
The loss identified some major holes in our scheme to help us be more efficient next game and possibly get a better start.
Can you summarize what it was like playing against the Jets last week?
A lot of things were going our way in the Jets game. QB making great throws and receivers getting separation but the key was stellar defensive play. Sacks and great coverage.
Can you talk about the development of Saivion Jones so far?
Savion has not gotten much playing time just yet, he isn’t yet ready. At practice he isn’t showing us what we need to see to trust him in the field.
Can you talk about what it’s like to prepare to go against a player like Devin White?
Devin is a guy that can be all over the field and even cover your best receivers downfield. We basically play keep away from HIM. He can make plays any way to hurt you.
How has Russell Wilson’s experience in the league helped the team so far?
Russell has actually been the most inconsistent on the field but such a leader in the locker room. The guys still trust him to make big plays when needed.
Over your career, what makes a team better at not turning the ball over as the season goes along? What kind of things you need to emphasize? How much of it is coaching? How much of it is a mental part? Physical part?
We need to get back to running the ball and throwing underneath then making plays with our legs. Make tacklers miss and find the endzone. Throws downfield cannot go directly to the other team, there is nothing a coach or the receivers can do about that. So the game is very mental in preparation but the physical execution needs to be done!
What were some of the contributing factors to the loss this week?
This week the offense couldn’t get in stride, Wilson threw inaccurate balls from a clean pocket under no pressure.
How quickly can you tell if a young player is a football player if he thinks about it because it seems like at the Combine they’re all saying the right thing and it’s the job. How quickly does it take?
I know talent at first sight! Can’t fool me, not even size and athleticism can fool me. I know true high character guys and true savages! That’s who I want and that’s who we get.
How much of a problem is Vita Vea on the defensive line?
A COMPLETE SAVAGE! You need to double him even when he is on the sideline.
Did you scout Cooper Mays before the draft? If so, what stood out about him?
I don’t not scout him.
How do you see the competition level in the AFC West currently?
AFC West is tough, I love getting playoff type of energy in those division games. It prepares you for the post season. You’re battle tested.
The team has been very fortunate in terms of injuries so far this season. You currently have no one injured. Can you point to any specific thing you've done to keep the roster generally healthy to this point?
I just need to monitor the workload throughout the season and in-game. We should be able to stay healthy as we hired a better training staff and started yoga sessions daily.
Your team is one of the oldest teams in the league in terms of average age. How do you feel about the future of this team while not having as many young players as other teams? Do you think having an older team has its benefits?
With age you sacrifice some speed and athleticism but football is a game that you can use your wit and experience to make plays on the ball. The ball is not magical, it still needs open paths to get from point A to point B.
Can you speak to the overall team health?
We are healthy and we will find our way. Long season ahead.
What are your thoughts about the Buccaneers just in general as a team?
great team, defending champs. Enough said!
