Transcript: Panthers Head Coach Press Conference

Can you summarize what it was like playing against the Chiefs last week?

Last week's game against the Chiefs was definitely a tough one. We had the lead for most of the game and our young team played really well. However, we made some mental mistakes late in the game and the Chiefs took advantage of that. They have an incredibly talented roster, including all-time greats like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, so we knew it was going to be a challenge.

To make matters worse, the weather was not in our favor. It was raining heavily and the wind was pretty strong, which made it even more difficult to execute on the field. Unfortunately, the Chiefs also won the turnover battle, which didn't help our cause.

Overall, it was a tough loss to take, but we know that we played hard and gave it our all. We're always learning and growing as a team, so we'll take the lessons from this game and apply them to future games.

Can you talk about the development of Marvin Harrison Jr. so far?

Marvin Harrison Jr. has been an impressive addition to our team so far. He has a natural talent for catching footballs, and it's almost as if he has glue on his hands! Beyond that, he's also proven to be an outstanding blocker, which is a great asset to our team. We've been experimenting with different ways to utilize this unique ability and maximize his potential on the field.

While he's certainly a key player on our team, it's worth mentioning that he's not shouldering the entire load. Jeremy Tate Jr. and Arik Gilbert have also been performing at a high level this season, and their success has helped take some of the pressure off of Marvin. That being said, we're excited to see what Marvin will continue to bring to our team, and we're confident that he'll continue to develop and grow as a player.

How quickly can you tell if a young player is a football player if he thinks about it because it seems like at the Combine they’re all saying the right thing and it’s the job. How quickly does it take?

As a head coach, it's not always easy to determine whether a young player has the instincts and natural talent to be a successful football player. While the combine and pre-draft interviews can give us some insight into a player's work ethic and preparation, it's often not until we see them on the field in game situations that we can truly assess their potential.

Of course, it's not just about physical ability and natural talent. A player's mental toughness, work ethic, and ability to learn and adapt to new situations are also critical factors in determining their success at the next level. We often look for players who have a strong football IQ, and who are able to make quick decisions on the field and react instinctively to changing situations.

In the end, there's no magic formula for identifying whether a young player has what it takes to succeed in this league. It often takes a combination of scouting, testing, and on-field evaluation, as well as the ability to assess a player's character and personality to determine whether they have the drive and dedication needed to thrive at the highest level.
