What is this?
Nef’s Power Rankings is a Power Rankings that will be provided weekly for PML members to enjoy! It’s rankings that don’t necessarily go off popular opinion or past results. It’s a fresh new look into power rankings that completely takes the popularity contest and bias out of it!
What is our goal?
Our goal is to provide a better understanding on who is really performing the best within a specific season using nothing but stats!
Who is involved?
Nefarious- Data gathering and inputing weekly.
Z- Weekly summary on the biggest surprises week to week to provide some substance to the Power Rankings and graphic itself.
CB- Weekly graphic to add something pretty to look at!
What stats are involved? Also what matters most?
Our Power Rankings are based into multiple scores. First you have your Record Score which gives you a certain amount of points every week. Making wins and loses weigh heavily week to week. Then you have your Weekly Score which gathers multiple stats based on that week to give you an overall score and performance on a week to week basis. Next you have Streak which takes your recent winning or losing streak to also adjust your ranking week to week. Then you have Team Overall that plays a very small factor when deciding where teams fall weekly. Finally we have our Total Score which is a combination of average Weekly Score, Record Score, Streak and Team Overall.
All of these things matter and factor into the final result but some matter more than others. Based on formulas used in this spreadsheet i can tell you roughly what effects the rankings mostly week to week and what effects them the least.
(From most to least)
Record Score– This is simple and self explanatory. The more you win the higher your score is. Wins and loses both weigh evenly. Wins effect it in a positive manner and loses effect it in a negative manner. For ties both team get half of what a win would get them.
Weekly Score– Recent weekly scores matter the most after record score. Older weeks (combined in 2’s) will effect the Total Score a little less and less as the season goes on. Weekly Scores does have multiple factors in it itself so I’ll break it down in most important to least.
– Record Differential in a win
– Point Differential
– Record Differential in a loss
– Ranking Differential in a win/loss (based on previous weeks total rankings)
– Team Overall Differential in a win/loss (based on team overall going into that weeks game)
– Points For/Points Against (small amount positive points for high scoring teams, and small amount subtracted for bad defenses)
Streak- With every win streak or losing streak you’ll receive a small hit or bump to your Total Score. So even if you lose one after having a big win streak you won’t punished by it in your total score. But the longer the streak is the more effect it can have on your Total Score and ranking.
Team Overall– Team Overall should matter. Especially when building a team is half of the battle. Though it matters it will not have a significant effect on our Power Rankings.
Thats a quick summary of what goes into it week to week. Please DM me (Nefarious) if you have any other questions.

Z’s Island: The 5 Biggest Surprises Heading into Week 5
1.Seattle Seahawks (2-2): This wouldn’t be a fair list if the most disappointing result of the week was anything other than the team that gave the Commanders their first win of the season. CJ Stroud was abysmal, completing only 57% of his passes for 197 yards, 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions. He also missed DK Metcalf deep 3 separate times, continuing what been a ridiculous trend. Kenneth Walker had a frustrating day, only amassing 43 yards on 18 carries. The Seattle defense allowed the Commanders to control the clock and the tempo of their game while allowing too many big runs and two touchdowns to Sam Howell through the air. With a tough matchup with the Ravens on the horizon, and a tough schedule till the end, the Seahawks need to right the ship or kiss their playoff aspirations goodbye.
2. Dallas Cowboys (3-1): How Bout Dem’ Cowboys? A team that has looked unstoppable for the previous 3 weeks finally met their match: the All-Madden CPU. The worst part about this loss is the fact that it came during the best game of Mason Garcia’s young career. He threw for over 325 yards and rushed for 93 and 2 touchdowns. That wouldn’t be enough, however, as rookie QB Cade Klubnik led the Vikings to victory in overtime, hitting Dalvin Cook in the flats for a walk-in touchdown. The Cowboys have gotten off to another hot start. One loss doesn’t derail their momentum and CPU games have become increasingly controversial, but you don’t want to look back at the end of the season and see a loss to the CPU Vikings is what kept you out of the playoffs.
3. Miami Dolphins (2-2): At this point in the cycle, we know what the Dolphins are: one of the best put together teams in the entire league. While Que has been maddeningly inconsistent, he typically has won the divisional games that count. The Dolphins got off to a blistering 21-0 start and had the Jets outmatched in all facets of the game. This, however, wouldn’t last long as the Jets ripped off a run of their own, capped off by a Jahmyr Gibbs house call as they would go on to win 45 to 38. Just a tough loss all around for the Dolphins as they try to keep pace with the Buffalo Bills, who are off to a 3-1 start themselves.
4. San Francisco 49ers (3-1): Ant might have finally found the formula. Although he couldn’t beat the 3x divisional champion Los Angeles Rams, boy did Ant put up a fight. Outside of a very questionable catch by Andre Iosivas in quadruple coverage and 2 interceptions by Trey Lance, the 49ers passing attack looked sharp for most of the day. Jalin Hyatt and AI combined for 255 combined receiving yards and 3 total touchdowns. The 49ers defense also forced DJ Uiagalelei into 3 turnovers. While it wasn’t enough for the 49ers to come out with the victory, the fact they were able to keep pace with the Rams (who they have had a close game with earlier in the cycle, albeit with a completely different roster) shows that they might be serious this season.
5. Tennessee Titans (2-2): Look out, the Titans might be here to stay. Bijan Robinson has finally returned from his suspension and his stint as a 15 yard-per-punt specialist. While he didn’t have an explosive game (Malik Willis stole the show against the Saints with 3 touchdowns and 209 combined yards), it’s just nice to see him on the field and Bubba looking like he cares about the league again. The Titans defense also looked stout, forcing 4 Bryce Young interceptions (Terrell Edmunds had a historic day with two interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a defensive touchdown). The Titans will have the chance to really build some steam with a matchup against their rival Drama and the Houston Texans in Week 5.
Z’s Happy Hour Bonus
Two Things I like, Heading into Week 5:
The Competitive Nature of the League: I’ve been apart of PML since Season 4 in Madden 19, and I can honestly say that this is the most competitive the league has been the entire time I’ve been here. Every single week there’s a marquee matchup or a rivalry that’ll make for an interesting game. The content quality has also been at an all-time high. I, like Arod on the breakfast show, am appreciative of the fact more articles are coming out, which do a great job at highlighting the creativity that our league has.
HypeMike’s Masked Series: This couldn’t have come out at a better time. It’s mid-April, and while a lot of leagues have died down, ours is still running strong like it’s October. We have an extremely active community of members, and it’s only right for there to be some s***-talking. What I like about HypeMike’s series is that it gives users a slight bit of anonymity while also providing very real feelings to be put on wax for everyone to see. Wasn’t sure how people felt about you? You have your answer. Hadn’t gotten your flowers for what you’ve done? Maybe you missed out on a list of the bottom 5 users and can now feel better about your play. Feel disrespected? Now you can speak out about it. This series just provides everything.
One Thing I Hate, Heading into Week 5:
Having to Enforce Integrity-Based Suspensions This Far In The Cycle: There’s really one goal of PML Gen Chat: Never do anything to make yourself the main character. Things can go from you just minding your business to having to defend yourself against allegations from all angles. It’s even worse when those allegations have substance behind them. We’ve come a long way from the early days where it was a given that 18 users would not be in contention for the postseason. Our rules have adapted over time, and I believe we’ve found a tolerable balance for what we allow and don’t allow. When that balance enters the rulebook territory, like it did with Kyler Murray this last week, it’s unacceptable. Drama was guilty of not only having his starting quarterback in the game during a blow out, he also had the nerve to throw a touchdown pass with him up big against the Big Commish himself, JT. That’s just asking for a suspension at this point. We’re much better than this, and we shouldn’t have to suspend players for guys to just know you shouldn’t’ break the unwritten rules, especially if you’ve been here for more than 3 cycles. Do better.
