We have made it a quarter of the way through season 4 of the Madden 22 cycle. Some teams are finding their stride early, while others are still struggling to find their identity. A handful of teams are being led by rookie quarterbacks this season, and today we will take a look at how they have performed at the quarter mark.
Sam Huard, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, QB
32-49, 65.3%, 657 yards, 6 TDs, 3 INTs, 122.7 QBR
Sam Huard finds himself in an interesting situation in Tampa Bay. He has been more efficient than any other rookie quarterback, but he is also not the starter. He started off week 1 as the starter before a trade that sent 2nd year quarterback C.J. Stroud to Tampa. However, Huard is still earning playing time in certain situations and formations on this offense, and has stepped in late in a couple games and performed well. It will be interesting to see how much Tampa Bay uses him in the future, but it never hurts to have a backup option who compliments certain playcalls and can step in right away if an injury happens.
Quinn Ewers, New England Patriots, QB
69/108, 63.9%, 1280 yards, 8 TDs, 4 INTs, 114 QBR
Quinn Ewers had a lot to live up to when he not only got selected early in the first round at pick 9 overall, but would also be succeeding a future hall of fame quarterback in Aaron Rodgers. So far Ewers has performed pretty well. It hasn’t resulted in many wins thus far, but the foundation is there and the blame can’t be placed on Ewers because he has been pretty efficient. The second highest QBR out of all rookies, and he is seeing a lot more snaps then Sam Huard.
Elijah Jones, Seattle Seahawks, QB
69/125, 55.2%, 1026 yards, 6 TDs, 8 INTs, 71.6 QBR
Elijah Jones took the NCAA by storm and lead Nebraska to a national championship and won the Heisman Trophy. Transitioning into the NFL has come with some struggles. Turnovers have been an issue, but at the same time the Seattle Seahawks staff hasn’t exactly put him in the best position to be successful. With a incredibly lackluster offensive line, and an aging WR core that features a 35 year old Julio Jones and a 31 year old Tyler Lockett.
Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears, QB
86/139, 61.9%, 1314 yards, 5 TDs, 16 INTs, 65.4 QBR
It has not been a pretty start for Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears. He has a lot of athleticism, but seems to be struggling with accuracy and making reads at the NFL level. The struggles for Williams continued this week when he got hurt and discovered a ruptured disk will keep him out for the next 7 weeks. With that news, the turn around won’t be happening anytime soon, but the hope will be for Williams to come back healthy and better than ever.
