The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8, and they left no doubt about their dominance with a commanding 45-10 victory. The win improves the Buccaneers to 6-2 on the season and keeps them in strong contention in the NFC South. This was one of our most complete games of the season, with the offense firing on all cylinders and the defense making life difficult for the Falcons. Our ability to control the game from start to finish was evident, as we dominated in every phase.
Offense: Mayfield Continues His Stellar Play
Once again, Baker Mayfield was the heartbeat of our offense, putting together an efficient performance. He went 15-for-22 for 243 yards, throwing 2 touchdowns, while also avoiding any costly mistakes. Mayfield’s 106.6 passer rating is a testament to his ability to manage the game while also pushing the ball downfield when necessary. His connection with Mike Evans remains strong, as Evans hauled in 5 receptions for 96 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown bomb that set the tone early.
Mayfield’s ability to spread the ball around was key to keeping Atlanta’s defense guessing. Godwin had 4 catches for 75 yards and added another touchdown to his growing total for the season. His 29-yard reception was a highlight, showing his versatility as both a deep threat and possession receiver. Rookie wideout Trey Palmer also got involved with 2 catches for 39 yards, continuing to develop into a reliable option. Tight end Devin Culp each contributed as well, grabbing passes for 39.
Rushing Attack: White Shines in Ground Game
Rachaad White led the ground attack with an impressive 132-yard performance on 16 carries. His ability to churn out yards in big chunks was on full display, highlighted by a long 25-yard run that showcased his vision and speed. White’s success on the ground was crucial in keeping the offense balanced and ensuring that we stayed ahead of the chains throughout the game.
Bucky Irving also made the most of his opportunities, rushing for 50 yards on 7 carries. Though he didn’t find the end zone, Irving’s physical running style continues to complement White’s more elusive approach. Fournette added 12 carries for 35 yards, and rookie tight end Trey Palmer got in on the action with a single rush for 3 yards.
Overall, the team rushed for 219 yards, controlling the clock and wearing down the Falcons’ defense. The balance between the run and the pass kept Atlanta on their heels, and our offensive line deserves a ton of credit for opening up holes in the run game while also protecting Mayfield.
Defense: Tampa’s Secondary Shuts Down Falcons’ Passing Game
Our defense was nothing short of suffocating. Kirk Cousins had a miserable day under center for the Falcons, completing just 14-of-27 passes for 153 yards and throwing 3 interceptions. Lavonte David led the charge with a pick of his own, showing his veteran leadership once again. David’s interception was one of three turnovers we forced on the day, setting up our offense with short fields and shifting momentum in our favor.
Patrick Peterson also had a standout performance, recording 4 tackles and adding his own interception. Peterson’s ability to read Cousins’ eyes and make plays on the ball was a huge factor in keeping the Falcons’ passing game grounded. Safety Smith came up with an interception of his own, further adding to the defensive dominance we displayed.
In terms of stopping the run, we were just as effective. The Falcons managed only 47 rushing yards on 12 attempts. Bijan Robinson, one of the league’s premier running backs, was held to just 46 yards on 10 carries. Our front seven, led by Calijah Kancey and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, was relentless in closing running lanes and pressuring Cousins. Kancey had 1.5 sacks and was a disruptive force all game, while Tryon-Shoyinka also contributed half a sack.
Yaya Diaby and Antoine Winfield Jr. also played key roles in bottling up Atlanta’s offense, with both recording 3 tackles. Winfield’s versatility was on full display, as he contributed in both run support and pass coverage. Overall, our defense held the Falcons to just 200 total yards and a single trip to the red zone, a testament to the preparation and execution we’ve built on all season.

On special teams, kicker Chase McLaughlin was perfect once again, going 6-for-6 on extra points and nailing his only field goal attempt from 22 yards out.
