🏈 Texas Longhorns vs Oklahoma

Player-by-Player Evaluation

Final: Texas 59, Oklahoma 10

Texas didn’t just win the Red River Rivalry — they controlled every phase. From a 21-point first quarter to near-perfect third-down execution (87%), this was a statement performance led by elite quarterback play, explosive skill players, and a swarming defense that never let Oklahoma find rhythm.

🔴 OFFENSE

QB Marcel Reed

31/40, 326 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT | 5 carries, 68 yards, 1 TD

Reed was the engine behind Texas’ offensive explosion. He commanded the offense with confidence, pace, and physicality, consistently stretching Oklahoma vertically while punishing soft coverage underneath.

The two interceptions were the only blemish on an otherwise excellent day — one forced throw and one late decision — but neither slowed his momentum. Reed made up for it with his legs, including a decisive red-zone rushing touchdown that capped a demoralizing drive.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½
Aggressive, composed, and in control — Reed dictated the rivalry.

QB A. Smith Jr.

3/3, 13 yards, 1 TD

Limited snaps, but perfect execution. Smith delivered a clean touchdown throw and kept the offense efficient when called upon.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Did exactly what was asked.

🔴 RUNNING BACKS

RB Bo Jackson

3 carries, 69 yards

Jackson’s stat line doesn’t reflect his impact — he delivered the most explosive run of the game, a 48-yard burst that flipped field position and ignited momentum. Every touch felt dangerous.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½
Game-breaking speed in limited opportunities.

RB Marcel Reed (as runner)

Already covered above, but his 13.6 yards per carry speaks volumes. Designed QB runs and scrambles kept Oklahoma off balance all afternoon.

RB Micah Rome

7 carries, 38 yards

Rome played his role well, grinding out tough yards and keeping the offense ahead of schedule.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐
Reliable and physical.

🔴 RECEIVERS & PASS CATCHERS

WR Kaliq Lockett

11 receptions, 132 yards, 2 TD

This was Lockett’s game.

He torched Oklahoma from the slot and outside, consistently separating on intermediate routes and turning short catches into chunk gains. His chemistry with Reed was undeniable, and both touchdowns came at moments that broke Oklahoma’s spirit.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Red River MVP-level performance.

WR J. French

5 receptions, 67 yards, 1 TD

French was a problem in space. He consistently won one-on-one matchups and made defenders miss after the catch. His touchdown showcased his body control and timing.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Strong WR2 performance.

WR D. McCutcheon

6 receptions, 60 yards

McCutcheon did the dirty work — moving chains, absorbing contact, and extending drives. His RAC numbers highlight how effective he was underneath.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Possession receiver excellence.

WR J. Washington

5 receptions, 43 yards

Not flashy, but dependable. Washington repeatedly converted key downs and helped Texas dominate time of possession.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐½
Chain-mover.

TE / WR A. Butler

2 receptions, 13 yards, 1 TD

Quiet statistically, loud on the scoreboard. Butler capitalized in the red zone with a clean touchdown catch.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐½
Clutch when needed.

🔴 DEFENSE

LB Ty’Anthony Smith

11 tackles, 4 TFL

Smith was everywhere. He consistently beat blocks, shut down run lanes, and forced Oklahoma into long-yardage situations.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Defensive tone-setter.

LB Dalton Brooks

7 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack

Brooks delivered a complete performance — sideline-to-sideline speed, backfield disruption, and a momentum-killing sack.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½
Elite linebacker play.

DB J. Williams

6 tackles, 1 INT (75 return yards)

Williams’ interception was one of the biggest plays of the game. He read the QB perfectly, jumped the route, and nearly housed it. His coverage was tight all afternoon.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½
Game-changing defensive play.

DB C. Ross II

7 tackles, 1 INT

Ross played aggressively and smart. His interception further buried Oklahoma and showcased Texas’ dominance in the secondary.

Evaluation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Opportunistic and disciplined.

DL / Front Seven Notes

Texas held Oklahoma to:

  • 2.0 yards per rush
  • 30% on third down
  • Only 10 points total

Relentless pursuit, gap integrity, and consistent pressure defined this unit.

🔴 TEAM EXECUTION NOTES

  • 514 total yards
  • 8.9 yards per play
  • 7-of-8 on third down
  • 21-0 first quarter
  • Defense allowed zero points in the 1st and 4th quarters

This was domination from start to finish.

🏆 FINAL THOUGHTS

This Red River game wasn’t just a rivalry win — it was a program statement. Marcel Reed continues to look like the unquestioned leader of the offense, Kaliq Lockett emerged as a true star, and the defense played with violence, discipline, and confidence.

Texas didn’t survive Oklahoma.
Texas embarrassed Oklahoma.
